ACUPUNCTURE

Does Acupuncture Hurt?

Most patients experience minimal to no discomfort during acupuncture. The needles are extremely thin, about the thickness of a human hair, and are nothing like needles used for injections. You may feel a slight tingling, warmth, or heaviness at the insertion sites, which are all normal sensations indicating the activation of qi.

How Many Sessions do I need?

Treatment plans are individualized based on your specific condition and health goals. Acute issues may resolve in 4-8 sessions, while chronic conditions typically require longer-term care. We'll discuss a recommended treatment plan during your initial consultation and adjust as needed based on your progress.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes, acupuncture is very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner. We use sterile, single-use disposable needles and follow strict hygiene protocols. Side effects are minimal and may include slight bruising or mild soreness at needle sites, which typically resolves quickly.

Do you take insurance?

At this time we do not accept insurance for acupuncture and other services. We do have Community acupuncture days where there is a lower price point. If we were to take insurance, I would be stuck in the Western medicine model where we only get 15 minutes to work with you. Instead, we take one patient at a time and spend 15 minutes just talking with you before each treatment. We get to know you so you can be treated as your WHOLE you, body, mind and spirit.

How should I prepare for my acupuncture session?

  • Eat a light meal 1-2 hours before your appointment

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily rolled up

  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, or intense exercise before treatment

  • Bring a list of medications and supplements you're currently taking

YOGA

Is Yoga Religious?

This is a common question, and the short answer is no, yoga is not inherently religious. While yoga has its roots in ancient Indian philosophy and spirituality, it is practiced by people of all faiths and no faith at all. Many practitioners find that yoga enhances their existing faith or spiritual practices, while others appreciate it purely for its physical and mental benefits. At our center, we welcome everyone regardless of their religious or spiritual background. Because the word “yoga” means “union,” our classes focus on all aspects of yoga, body, mind, and spirit, while providing a safe and inclusive space for all to benefit from the practice.

What if I miss a class? Can I make up?

Yes! You are welcome to make up your missed 10 week session classes by attending any other 10 week class on the schedule. Just let the teacher know, no fancy forms or online sign ups.

Can I take classes while pregnant?

Yes! Most classes will happily have you in their class and have prenatal training. Gita Kali has taught many prenatal yoga classes, practiced yoga through several pregnancies and is also a trained Doula.

Do you offer private Sessions?

Yes! We have 3 practitioner rooms that offer various modalities of healing. We also offer private yoga sessions regarding asana (poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, philosophy, lifestyle choices, spiritual guidance, yoga teacher mentorships, yoga for children with special needs and more! Just ask if you don’t see what you are looking for on the website.

Do you have online offerings?

Yes! We often offer at least one of our 10 week class sessions online, our monthly Kirtans, and in the future we will also offer Pujas weekly.

Do you need to be flexible to do yoga?

Absolutely not! This is a common misconception. Yoga is about working with your body exactly as it is today. Flexibility is a potential outcome of yoga, not a prerequisite. Our instructors offer modifications for all body types and ability levels. In fact, those who feel inflexible often benefit the most from yoga practice.

What should I wear to yoga class?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement without being too loose or restrictive. Stretchy pants or shorts and fitted t-shirts or tank tops work well. Yoga is practiced barefoot, but you may wear socks during the initial relaxation and final meditation portions. Avoid heavy perfumes or colognes out of consideration for others who may be sensitive and plan to leave your phone on silent with your stored personal belongings so this can truly be a practice of presence and relaxation for you and a

What should I bring to yoga class/other classes?

Bring layers of clothing to adjust your comfort level with the temperature, water for hydration and your yoga mat if you have one (we do have a few to use). You may also want to bring floor seating that might help you find comfort (we do have some yoga blankets also).

Do you offer hot yoga?

No. That is not a type or style of yoga that we offer here.

Can my teen come to adult classes?

Yes! Your teens are welcome to come to adult classes unless otherwise stated. My kids classes are often more advanced than my adult classes as they just get this stuff! We just ask that if your teen comes, that THEY want to be there.

GENERAL

What about Parking?

Parking is no doubt a challenge here at Bhakti Spirit. We are located in a neighborhood and want to respect our neighbors, because they are our neighbors every day even when you are not there. There are a few spots in the small parking area but otherwise we need to park on the street. Be mindful of not parking in front of people’s driveways or in their grass when it is muddy or wet. Street parking is legal, but do unto others as you would like have done to you!
