SEVA

What is Seva? Seva is a Sanskrit term for "selfless service." It is giving without the expectation of any return. Here at Bhakti Spirit, this is important to us. There are many ways we give. One is through donations, kirtans, and events that raise money and awareness for girls rescued from trafficking in Kolkata India. 

Since 2012, Gita Kali, found and director of Bhakti Spirit, has raised funds to support children in need in India, totaling over $150,000. Her efforts have benefited numerous rescue homes and after-school care centers in Kolkata, particularly those located in the red-light districts. Gita has visited these homes and centers multiple times, witnessing firsthand the transformative impact of these donations. The funds provide education and life skills that empower these girls and young women to build independent lives.

 

One of the programs we proudly support is a yoga program. Through yoga, these girls develop a positive relationship with their bodies, learn to connect with their breath, and discover relaxation. This program plays a vital role in fostering confidence and emotional well-being, giving them tools for a brighter future.

Our Committment

We are so excited to finally have a non-profit to help us raise funds for the girls in Kolkata.  By supporting this cause, you are not just providing access to yoga classes; you are giving these girls a chance. Here at Bhakti Spirit we allocate 5-30% of our revenue from classes, workshops and events to the girls in Kolkata after covering essential operating costs, ensuring both our local community sustainability and continued support for our mission. This percentage is in addition to the funds we generate through donations, fundraisers, kirtans, and other events dedicated to supporting this cause.
